Explanation / Answer
The main 2 factors include:
1. Unhealthy Behavior pattern of the adult which includes unhealthy diet pattern and low physical activity. There should be a balance between the amount of food we consume and our daily activity otherwise, leads to obesity.
2. Environment and Genetic factors also contribute to obesity. People living in the environment which encourage walking rather than taking a bike will help them to be fit. Genetic factors and family history also can result in an obesity epidemic but the process of gene/group of genes contributing obesity is poorly understood as several environment factors also influence people becoming obese.
Screening: Nurses should regularly measure the body mass index of their patients.
Intensive, multicomponent behavioral interventions:
Nurses should provide counseling or education related to diet or nutrition to prevent and reduce obesity in patients emphasizing weight reduction, nutrition, or physical activity.
Technology-supported components can also be for counseling and education which may include the use of the internet, CD-ROM, e-mail, kiosk, computer program, video conferencing, personal digital assistants, and computerized telephone system interventions that target physical activity, nutrition, or weight. Non-technological components may include in-person counseling and written feedback.
It is very necessary to fight against obesity as it can lead to various health complications such as chronic diseases such as high blood pressure and dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, osteoarthritis, and some cancers.
Obese people experience complications during pregnancy and they are also found to die at an earlier age. Thus it is very important to fight against obesity.
