Question
A model rocket is launched with a very rapid engine burst. The engine cuts off quickly and the rocket is subject only to gravity after that (ignore air resistance). At t = 0, (which we call height = 0) it is heading straight up with an initial speed of 54 m/s. We define "up" as the positive direction. Find its altitude at 1 s? Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate units. h_1 = 60 m. Find its velocity at 7 s? Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate units. v_7 = ________ ___________ Find its altitude at7 s?Explanation / Answer
Given Data
At t = 0 , h = 0, inital speed , u = 54 m/s
Solution : -
Part - B) Altitude at t = 1 s is
h = ut - 0.5gt^2
h = 54*1 - 0.5*9.8*1^2
h = 54 - 4.9
h = 49.1 m
Parrt - C) velocity at 7 s is
v = u - gt
= 54 - 9.8*7
= -14.6 m/s
Parrt - D) altitude at 7 s is
h at 7 s = ut - 0.5gt^2
h at 7 s = 54*7 - 0.5*9.8*7^2
h at 7 s = 137.9 m
