Question
A near-sighted person might correct his vision by wearing diverging lenses with focal length f = 50 cm. When wearing his glasses, he looks not at actual objects but at the virtual images of those objects formed by his glasses. Suppose he looks at a 14-cm-long pencil held vertically 1.4 m from his glasses. Use ray tracing to determine the location and height of the image.

Explanation / Answer
Given values are
focal length = 50 cm
distance of object = do = 1.4 m = 140 cm
height of object = 14 cm
using equation
1/f = 1/di + 1/do
1/di = 1/f - 1/do = 1/50 - 1/140
di = 77.78 cm
new h = -i/o * h = 77.78/140*10=5.55 cm
