Explanation / Answer

Given,

v0x = 5.4 m/s ; ax = 7.4 m/s^2 ; v0y = 5.5 m/s ; ay = -1.6 m/s^2

t = 0.5 s

a)from eqn of motion,

v = u + at

vx = v0x + ax t = 5.4 + 7.4 x 0.5 = 9.1 m/s

vy = v0y + ay t = 5.5 - 1.6 x 0.5 = 4.7 m/s

magnitude of velocity will be:

v = sqrt (9.1^2 + 4.7^2) = 10.24 m/s

Hence, v = 10.24 m/s

b)theta = tan-1(vy/vx)

theta = tan-1 (4.7/9.1) = 27.32 deg

Hence, theta = 27.32 deg
