Question

Please see atteached image for problem. I solved question (a), but I am struggling with (b)

a) An indestructible bullet 1.85cm long is fired straight through a board that is 10.Dcm thick. The bullet strikes the board with a speed of 426m s and emerges with a speed of 300m s. Whar is the average acceleration of the bullet as it passes through the board? -4.57×105 m/s-2 You are correct. Computer's answer now shownm above. Your receipt is 148-5648 b) What is the total time that the bullet is in contact with the board? 1.83e-38 Previous Tncs Submit Answer Incorrect. Tries 4/6 Previous Tries

Explanation / Answer

Given,

Initial velocity, u = 426 m/s

Final velocity, v = 300 m/s

Acceleration, a = -4.57 x 105 m/s2

Applying Newton's 1st equation of motion

Time, t = (v - u)/a = (300 - 426)/(-4.57 x 105) = 2.76 x 10-4 sec
