8.A Problem 8.30 x previous 4 of 6 next Problem 8.30 Part B What is the tangential acceleration (i.e., the acceleration parallel to the road) of car B? Express your answer with the appropriate units. Three cars are driving at 29.0 m/s along the road shown in the figure (Figure 1. Car B is at the bottom of the hill and car C is at the top. Suppose each car suddenly brakes hard and starts to skid. Express your answer with the appropriate units. | Figure 1 |ofl 0 7.155 200 m r-200 m Submit MyAnswer GiveUp 0 Incorrect; Try Again; 5 attempts remainingExplanation / Answer
Part B
car B: N will be enhanced by following the shape of the bottom of the hill.
N = m*g + m*v^2/r
So Ff = mew*(m*g + m*v^2/r)
and again Ff = m*a
so,
m*a = 1*(mg + m*v^2/r)
a = g + v^2/r
= 9.81 + (29^2/200) = 14.015 m/s2
Part C
car C: N will be decreased by following the shape of the top of the hill.
N = m*g - m*v^2/r
So Ff = mu*(m*g - m*v^2/r)
and again Ff = m*a
so,
m*a = 1*(mg - m*v^2/r)
a = g - v^2/r
= 9.81 – (29^2/200) = 5.605 m/s2
For both, the direction will be negative (-).
Try with negative values first.
