Question

there are five objects ( A, B, C, D, E) which may or may notbe charged. the following is observed 1. Object E attracts Objects A and D. 2. Object B attracts Objects C and E. 3. Object C repulses Object D. 4. Object A repulses Object B. 5. Electrons are repulsed from Object D. Determine the sign of the charge (+, -, or zero) for all theobjects and explain your reasoning. there are five objects ( A, B, C, D, E) which may or may notbe charged. the following is observed 1. Determine the sign of the charge (+, -, or zero) for all theobjects and explain your reasoning.

Explanation / Answer

First, start with repulsion. If a charged object isbrought near an object with a charge of 0, it can still beattracted and it would be ambiguous to start with this. First... Object D must be negatively charged since it isrepelled by negative electrons. Then, go to Object C... Since it is repulsed by Object D, itMUST be negatively charged, an object with a charge of zerocannot repel an object. Next, since Object B is attracted to object C, it cannotbe negatively charged. At this point, it couldbe positive or 0. Since B is repulsed by A (it cannot be0 and for more explanation, see reasoning above), it mustbe positive which also make A positive. Since Object E can be attracted to A or D which are differentcharges, object E must be zero. To sum everything up, A - Positive B - positive C - negative D - negative E - zero Hope this helps
