Question
I'm having trouble with this homework question. I wouldappreciate any help. Thanks. The drawing shows a person (weightW = 575 N, L1 = 0.835 m,L2 = 0.422 m) doing push-ups. Find thenormal force exerted by the floor on each hand andeach foot, assuming that the person holds thisposition.Explanation / Answer
From the fig we can write Nf + Nh - W = 0 ==> Nf + Nh = 575 N According torque balancing equation we have Nf * L1 - NhL2 = 0 Nf / Nh = L2 / L1 =0.422 / 0.835 = 0.505 ==> Nf = 0.505 Nh therefore 0.505 Nf + Nf =575N ==> Nf =382.05 N and Nh =192.94 N For each hang Nf = 382.05 / 2 = 191.025 N Nh = 192.94 / 2 = 96.47 N
