Question

An 84.0-mH inductor and a 5.80-F capacitor are connectedin series with a generator whose frequency is 375 Hz. The rmsvoltage across the capacitor is 2.20 V. Determine the rms voltageacross the inductor. I am having trouble with this problem if there is anyone whocould help me understand the solution(s) it would be greatlyappreciated, thank you for your time and consideration. Explanation / Answer

w = 2f    = 2(375)    = 750
Convert the inductor and capacitor from time domain tofrequency domain.
inductor = jwL    =j(750)(0.084)       = j63
capacitor = (1/jwC)       = (1/(j(750)(0.0000058))       = -j73.17

I capacitor =(V/R)       = (2.2/-j73.17)       = j(220/7317)
Since the capacitor and and theinductor are in series, they share the same current.
v inductor = R *I capacitor       = j63 * j(220/7317)       = -5.95 V
