Question

Two circuits contain an emf produced by a moving metal rod.The speed of the rod is the same in each circuit, but the bulb incircuit 1 has one-half the resistance of the bulb in circuit 2. Thecircuits are otherwise identical. the resistance of hte light bulbin circuit 1 is 55, and that in circuit 2 is 110.Determine (a) the ration1/2 of the emfs and(b) the ratio I1/I2 of thecurrents in the circuits. (c) If the speed of therod in circuit 1 were twice that in circuit 2, what would be theration P1/P2 of the powers in thecircuits? Explanation / Answer

(a)    because the speed of the rods is thesame, the ratiois   one (i.e. the emfs are the same) . (b)   since resistance 1 is half as much, current 1is twice as much. The ratiois   2. . (c)   if the speed of the rod in circuit 1 wasdoubled, its emf would also be double, and its current would bedouble. The power is current times emf, so... .              doubling of emf and doubling of current would mean the ratioof   P1 / P2would be   4
