Question
A stone was thrown upward with an initial speed of 10m/s from theroof of a building and strikes the ground in 6s (no air resistance) How tall is the building? How high does the ball go in respect to the roof? How fast is the block moving just before it reaches to theground? Can someone please take me in detail through how to do this, with what equations I am supposed to use???

Explanation / Answer
How tall is the building?let the height of the building be H, let max heigh from the roof is h h = v2 / 2g =(10m/s)2/2*9.8m/s2 = 5.10m the time to reach the max heigh is t1 = v/g = 10m/s /9.8m/s2 ˜ 1s the time to fall to the ground from max heigh is: t2 = 6s -1s= 5s since from max heigh, we have (H+h) = (1/2)g(t2)2 =0.5*9.8m/s2*(5s)2 = 122.5m H = 122.5m-5.10m = 117.4m the building heigh is 117.4m
