given focal length f = 38 cm magnification m = 2.6 let di and do are the image and object distance then we have    m = - di /do so                     di = - 2.6 do from the thin lence equation    1/f  = 1/di +1/do                                               1/38 = -1/ 2.6do + 1/ do                                               do = 23.3846 cm to get the greater magnified image the object should bemoved away from the lens substitute the value of di and f and calculate forthe value of do again calculate the value of do by taking m = 3.8 then we have    m = - di /do so                     di = - 3.8 do so                     di = - 3.8 do                                           1/f   = 1/di +1/do                                               1/38 = -1/ 3.8do + 1/ do                                                     do = 28 cm                                               1/38 = -1/ 3.8do + 1/ do                                                     do = 28 cm then the difference of the first and second do is therequired answer the differecne is = 28 - 23.3846 = 4.6154cm
