Question
This is a two part question/answer. A35.0 kg child starting from rest slides down a water slidewith a vertical height of 19.6 m.(Neglect friction) a). What is the child's speed halfway down the slide'svertical distance?-----m/s b). What is the child's speed three-quarters of the waydown?------m/s This is a two part question/answer. A35.0 kg child starting from rest slides down a water slidewith a vertical height of 19.6 m.(Neglect friction) a). What is the child's speed halfway down the slide'svertical distance?-----m/s b). What is the child's speed three-quarters of the waydown?------m/sExplanation / Answer
Vertical height h = 19.6 m
Mass m = 35 kg
Initial energy E = mgh = 6722.8 J
= mgh / 2
= 3361.4 J
We know K = (1/ 2) mv ^ 2
From this required speed v = [ 2K / m]
= 13.85 m / s
(b). Kinetic energy at Three quater K' = E - P
= mgh – ( mgh / 4) from law of conservationof energy
= 3mgh / 4
= 5042.1 J
We know K' = (1/ 2) mv ' ^ 2
