Question
I do not know from where my professor got this question, sinceit is not in the book we are using. I have tried to work thisproblem with the equation from Faraday's Law (I = dBACos/dt),but I cannot get to the equation to be proved in the problem.Please, I need help, I need to turn in my homework and this is theonly problem I had not been able to solve and this problem soundslike one that could come in a test later on; and I do notunderstand it and have not been able to solve it. Any help will begreatly appreciated. The problem follows:
In 1832 Faraday proposed that the apparatus shown in the figurebelow could be used to generate electric current from the waterflowing in a river. Two conducting plates of lengths a andwidths b are placed facing each other on opposite sides ofthe river, a distance w apart. The flow velocity of theriver is v and the vertical component of theEarth’s magnetic field is B. Show that the currentin the load resistor R is
I = abvB / ( +abr/w) Where is the resistivity of water.
