a) If the linear distance between the first and thesecond dark fringes of the pattern is 12 cm, what is the width ofthe slit?
b) if the slit is made wider , will the distance between thefirst and second dark fringes increase of decrease?

Explanation / Answer

a) find the width of the slit w.
xm = mL/w
x2 - x1 = (2 - 1)L/w= L/w
w = L/(x2 - x1) =1.265*10-5 m
b) from x2 - x1 = L/w
if w is increased, x2 - x1 willdecrease.
