Question

I can get the answer for part A easily enough, but I cannotfigure out what I am doing wrong on part B. Can anyone help?
A fisherman is fishing from a bridge and is using a "45-N testline." In other words, the line will sustain a maximum force of 45N without breaking. What is the weight of the heaviest fish thatcan be pulled up vertically, when the line is reeled in(a) at constant speed and (b)with an acceleration whose magnitude is 2.0 m/s2? I can get the answer for part A easily enough, but I cannotfigure out what I am doing wrong on part B. Can anyone help?

Explanation / Answer

b) 43.0N - mg= ma =>m = 43.0N / (g+a) = 43.0N / (9.8m/s2 +2.0m/s2) = 3.644 kg
weight =3.644*9.8=35.711 N
