Question
With two Polaroid filters, specially fabricated plastic sheets having the property that they transmit light which is linearly polarized along a certain direction—called the “polarization direction” of the filter—determined by material properties of the plastic sheet. Conversely, Polaroid filters absorb light polarized at right angles to the polarization direction.Determination of the polarization direction: Find an outside horizontal surface lying
between you and the general direction of the sun from which glare is apparent. This
can be a parking lot surface, pool of water or myriad other objects. View the object
through one of your filters and rotate it about the line-of-sight. You should observe
the apparent brightness change as you rotate the filter. When the scene is at its
brightest, you have found the polarization direction for your filter—it lies in the
horizontal plane for reasons that are well understood but outside the scope of this
exercise. You can mark it on your filter with a piece of scotch tape. Determine the
polarization direction of the second filter and mark it.

Explanation / Answer
Light emmited from the polaroid is the plane of vibration and light will be polarized perpedicular to the plane of vibration along the propagation of light which is known as plane of vibration. when two polarids are used and second one is rotated with respective the first the resultant intensity changes. intensity of emmited light is given by I = Io*Cos2f
