Question
Two long, straight, parallel wires, 10.0 cm apart carry equal 4.00-A currents in the same direction, as shown in the figure . (The current goes into the screen, at the two purple dots).
There is a point P 20 cm higher, on the x axis 5 cm away from each.
What is the net magnetic field at point P?
By simple vector addition I know there is no y component since the two wires have their y components canceling, there is only a negative x component. The following answers are INCORRECT: 1.88*10^-6, 1.88*10^-10, 7.53*10^-10
Explanation / Answer
We have B_x=-2I*muy*cosalpha/4pi*sqrt(0.2^2+0.05^2) where tanalpha=20/5 so B_x=-9.4e-7(T)
