In the collision pictured at the left the time of impact is 35.55 milliseconds and the average force is 508.83 newtons. a) To the nearest hundredth of a joule*sec what is the impulse? b) If the mass of the ball in is 3.18 and its velocity before collision is 3.74 m/s, to the nearest hundredth of a m/s, what is its velocity after collision? The answer for a) 18.09 J*sec and b) -1.95m/sExplanation / Answer
Hi,
Impulse is I=F x t ; time must be second therefore 35.55 ms= 0.03555 sec.
I= 508.83 x 0.03555 =18.09
I=P = mV
18.09= 3.18 V
V = 5.688
V=Vfinal - V initial ; 5.688 =Vfinal -Vinital
5.688=3.74-(-Vinital)
Vinitial=1.95
