I think I understand why the weight is 11 kN. It's because that is the total contact force exerted on the road. I am wondering if this reasoning is correct?

Also the answer to the net force is 2.1 kN northward. I am confused about this answer. Obviously if you subtract 3.3-1.2 you get the answer. But why? The question says the forces are moving southward. I understand that friction will make it go forward. I thought that if the question said both forces were southward that would mean you would add them together? Why does this change?
