if I am trying to find the max load a truss can handle and I know the max tension/compression through each member is 50 kN, how would I identify what the maximum that the whole truss can if I am trying to find the max load a truss can handle and I know the max tension/compression through each member is 50 kN, how would I identify what the maximum that the whole truss can if I am trying to find the max load a truss can handle and I know the max tension/compression through each member is 50 kN, how would I identify what the maximum that the whole truss canExplanation / Answer
the total load carring is depends on the truss structure and its orientation , and stress....you should may uplode the truss diagram also..
each member is carrying 50kn. you shoul have the max allowable stress in each member to find out the max load that can carry a truss. That is (50kn / cross sectional area of the mamber) is the stress in that member. if that stress is greater than the allowable stree then the load carrying capacity of the truss is less than 50kn
that means if the stree in the mamber crosses the allowable stress than the mamber going to fail. so, calculate force in the member for the allowable stree. that is force = allowablw stree x cross sectional area.
