QUESTION 15
P Flag question The man in the diagram is trying to move a large box by pushing on it with a force, P. The box we ighs 300N and its centre of gravity is located in the centre of the box (point C) Given: a=1.8m b=0.7 m h1 m Question 15 Not yes answered Marked out of 1.25 P Flag questionAnswer What is the minimum coefficient of static friction that will permit tipping to occur? Please do not include the unit s (as there are none) within your answer and round to 3 significant figures (e.g. if the calculated answer was 55.562 please input: 55.6).Explanation / Answer
For tipping to just happen, the resultant of applied force P and weight of box W should pass through the Southeast corner of the box.
The angle made by the resultant force with the horizonTal is given by arctan(W/P)
This angle will have to be arctan(h/(b/2))
Therefore, W/P=2h/b
P=Wb/2h=(300*0.7)/(2*1) =105 N
Coefficient of friction needed=P/W=105/300=0.35
