Question
In step 4 how did they get 2/32.2? I do know that 2 is the mass and a= 32.2ft/s^2 but I don't understand how they used the formula ads=vdv to divide the acceleration. Shouldn't it be multiplied with the mass?
Thank you!! Engineering Mechanics From the geometry Stretched length,-m +s' Stretch x =11-1 P-4+-1) Step 4 Equation of motion Acceleration is rate of change of velocity and velocity is rate of change of displacement Acceleration can be expressed as dv ds From geometry cos . Substituting values of a, F,, cos ein equation (1) 2 ( dv 322 ds -4s+ Step 5 Integrating both sides 4s 32.2 432'-1] v-1P-322(42-6) 32.2 225+32 2(42-6) = 213.95 = 14.62 ft/s -225+322(42-6) Velocity of collar. Velocity of colla146u ,-14 6 h/s
Explanation / Answer
2 is not the mass. it is the weight W= 2 lb
W= Mg
M=W/g = 2/ 32.2
This is a common problem using Fps system. forces and masses are represented as lb
