Question

Water has high specific heat. Based on the structure ofwater in solution, explain: (a) what happens when water boils--and why it seems to take along time to do so (b)How can water absorb heat (c) Why bugs and small particles can float on the surface ofwater (i.e explain serface tension) (d) what kinds of chemical bonds are resposible for theseinteractions I think c and d have to do with the H bonding but i am notsure Water has high specific heat. Explanation / Answer

Heat capacity isthe capability of water to absorb heat without undergoing anincrease in temperature. Water has a high heat capacity. This meansthat even though heat energy is entering a body of water, thatenergy will not be reflected in the measured temperature of thewater until more heat has been added.
