Question

Question A wooden plank is raised at one end to an angle of 30o . A 2.0 kg box is placed on the incline1.0 m from the lower end and given a slight tap to overcomestatic friction. The coefficient of kinetic friction between thebox and the plank is k= 0.20 . Find a) the rate ofacceleration of the box and b) the speed of the box at the bottom.Assume that the initial speed of the box is zero.

I don't know how to solve this. Pls help

Explanation / Answer

    angle of the plank, = 30 o       mass of the box, m = 2 kg     distance of the box, s = 1 m     coefficient of kinetic friction, k =0.2     (a)        acceleration, a = g ( sin -k cos )                              = 9.8 ( sin 30 - 0.2 cos 30 )                              = 9.8 ( 0.5 - 0.1732 )                              = 3.203 m/s^2     (b)        Speed, V = ( 2 a s ) = ( 2 * 3.203 * 1 ) = 2.53 m/s
