Question

Assume your arm is a rigid rod rotating the bucket containingthe water. Gravity and the force the container exerts on thewater are the only forces acting on the water. Theacceleration due to gravity, g, is always in the downwarddirection. On top of the circle the acceleration of thebucket is v^2/r towards the center of the circle, i.e. in thedownward direction. If v^2/r < g, then the acceleration ofthe water has a greater magnitude than that of the bucket, and thewater spills out of the bucket.

Explanation / Answer

Minumum speed  v = [ r g ] = [ 0.8 * 9.8 ] = 2.8 m / s
