Question
A box is cubical with sides of proper lengths L1=L2=L3=1.6mwhen viewed in its own rest frame. This block moves parallelto one of its edges with a speed of 0.85c past an observer. (a) What shape does it appear to have to this observer? Answer: rectangular (b) What is the length of each side as measured by thisobserver, assuming that the side that the block is moving parallelto is L1? Answers for L2 and L3 are 1.6 m. I can't find how to calculate the length of L1. A box is cubical with sides of proper lengths L1=L2=L3=1.6mwhen viewed in its own rest frame. Given :L1=L2=L3=1.6m
v = 0.85 c
L1 =L1,p(1-v2/c2) =(1.6m)(1-.852) = 0.842
L2 = L2p = 1.6m
L3 = L3p = 1.6m I hope it helps you I hope it helps you
