Question
In a 60-Hz RLC circuit, the phase angle is positive. Thevalues of the resistance, inductance,and the capacitance are nowdoubled. Which of the following is now true about the phaseangle? a. it is still positive b. it could be zero c. it will be negative d. it could be positive, negative, or zero, but itcannot be greater than its original value In a 60-Hz RLC circuit, the phase angle is positive. Thevalues of the resistance, inductance,and the capacitance are nowdoubled. Which of the following is now true about the phaseangle? a. it is still positive b. it could be zero c. it will be negative d. it could be positive, negative, or zero, but itcannot be greater than its original valueExplanation / Answer
= tan-1 { [ ( L ) - ( 1 / C ) ] / R}
As L and C and R are doubled
= tan-1 { [ ( 2L ) - ( 1 / 2C ) ] /2R }
= tan-1 { 2[ ( L ) - ( 1 /4 C) ] /2 R }
= tan-1 { [ ( L ) - ( 1 / 4C )] / R }
So from the above equation the value can be stillpositive as the capacitive reactance is reduced by 4times.
