Question

Hi,

Can someone please explain how to solve the following problem. I'mvery confused.

A spherical weather balloon is filled with hydrogen until itsradius is 3.00m. Its total mass including the instruments itcarries is 15.0kg. (a) Find the buoyant force acting on theballoon, assuming the density of air is 1.29kg/m3. (b)What is the net force acting on the balloon and its instrumentsafter the balloon is released from the ground? (c) Why does theradius of the balloon tend to increase as it rises to higheraltitude?

Thanks!

Explanation / Answer

RADIUS OF THE BALLOON=3.0m hence density=0.1326kg/m3 as the density is less than that of air it floats buoyancy force=volume immersed *density of air*g=1407.6N weight=15*9.8=147N net force 1260.6N upwards as it ascends pressure decreases and hence volume increases
