I am having trouble figuring out when I am trying to solve aword problem in physics for velocity whether I use themomentum equation P1i + P2i = P1f + P2f (m1v1i + m2v2i =m1v1f + m2v2f) or the Kf + Uf = Ki +Ui. My biggest problem comes when I am asked to find the velocityof a particle, for some reason I just cant tell which equation touse. Sometime it will ask you to find the kinetic energy or themomentum, which i understand then which to use, but for the mostpart I keep using the wrong one. Is there some rule to go by when decided which to use? Willthere be an indication in the question?
