Question

An object is placed 10.0 cm from a convex mirror having a focal length of magnitude 15.0 cm. (a) Use graph paper to construct an accurate ray diagram for this situation. From your ray diagram, determine the location of the image, its magnification, and whether it is upright or inverted. (b) Check your answers to part (a) using the mirror equation.

Explanation / Answer

An object is placed 10.0 cm from a convex mirror having a focallength of magnitude 15.0 cm. (a) Use graph paper to construct anaccurate ray diagram for this situation. From your ray diagram, determine the location of the image, its magnification, and whetherit is upright or inverted. (b) Check your answers to part (a) usingthe mirror equation. for convex mirror f=15cm u=-10cm from the mirror equation 1/u+1/v=1/f 1/v=1/f-1/u=1/15+1/10=> v=6cm v=+ve means that the image is virtual and will be formed on theother side of the mrror magnification=-v/u=-6/-10=0.6 it means size of the image is 0.6 times that of the object. as the image is virtual the    image isupright.
