Question

Ci leCR four Recall 1 Label the following parts of compact bone on Figure 7.9 Blood vessels Canaliculi Central canal Concentric lamellae Lacunae osteon O Perforating canal Trabeculae of spongy bone FIGURE 7.9 Microscopic anatomy of compact bone tissue 2 Mark the following statements as true (T or false (F). If the statement is false, correct it to make it a true statement The periosteum contains osteocytes and osteoclasts. Osteoblasts secrete bone matrix. Compact bone is the hard, outer bone. Spongy bone is composed of spicules called osteons. Spongy bone houses red and yellow bone marrow. Perforating fibers anchor the endosteum to the superficial surface of a bone. 3 The organic component of bone consists of and functions to a. collagen; provide compressional strength b. calcium hydroxyapatite; provide compressional strength c. collagen: provide tensile strength d. calcium hydroxyapatite; provide tensile strength

Explanation / Answer

1. image clariy is not good.. but i recognized some parts

i am coming from left hand side of picture... 1)osteon 2)concentric lamellae 3)trabeculae of spongy bone ,,now come from right hand side.. 4)lacunae 5)concentic circles 6)blood vesels 7)central canal and perforating canal

if any doubt please refer on your text book because i think you are already familiarised with that diagram... and image quality is also not good to recognize parts clearly..

2.a false- periosteum contains contains osteoblasts and osteoclasts

2b false- osteoclasts secrete bone matrix

2c false- it is the hard, deep bone

2d false- the spicules are called trabeculae

2e true

2f false- the fibers anchor the periosteum

3 c Collagen, and it functions to provide tensile strength.....

4 b Calcium hydroxyapatite, and it functions to provide compressional strength....

5 a only

6 a only

7 b

8 in figure 7.10 what u filled is correct

9 b

10 c diaphysis, and it usually contains the yellow bone marrow

1

a compact bone- hard, dense, bone tissue found immediately deep to the periosteum; the hardness comes from its structure (osteons)

b spongy bone-found on the inside of a bone deep compact bone; somewhat resembles sponge and consists of trabeculae

c long bone- longer than are wide; include bones of the upper and lower extremities excluding ankle and wrist bones

2 It would make the bones spongy and brittle at the same time, decrease their strength and would like alter their shape depending on aggressiveness of the tumor.

3 usually periosteum is the most superficial tissue of a bone; composed of dense irregular collagenous connective tissue richly supplied of blood vessels.. so surgeon takes care of it when they dealing periosteum..

in last page,,

for procedure :- model inventory for compact and spongy bones.. there is detail reading of text book is needed.. so answering is not possible...

for procedure microscope :- its answering is also not possible because it needed lab experience.. and picture depend on your viewing in lab..
