Question
A 1058 kg car pushes a 2139 kg truck that has adead battery. When the driver steps on the accelerator, the drivewheels of the car push against the ground with a force of 4876 N.Rolling friction can be neglected. What is the magnitude of theforce of the car on the truck? What is the magnitude of the force of the truck onthe car? A 1058 kg car pushes a 2139 kg truck that has adead battery. When the driver steps on the accelerator, the drivewheels of the car push against the ground with a force of 4876 N.Rolling friction can be neglected. What is the magnitude of theforce of the car on the truck? What is the magnitude of the force of the truck onthe car?Explanation / Answer
Here considering both the car and truck as one system . Then Net force =4876 N Net mass =1058 + 2139 = 3197 kg Also Acceleration of system= Net force/mass = 4876 / 3197 = 1.525m/s2 Also the only force acting on truck is from Car (NeglectingFriction ) So Force on truck = Mass of truck *acceleration of truck = 2139 *1.525 = 3262.36 N Also from Newton's third law of motion , force on car due to truckwill be equal and opposite to force on truck due to car magnitude of the force of the truck on the car=3262.36 N
