Question

A treasure map directs you to start at a palm tree and walkdue north for 12.0 m. You are then to turn 90 degrees and walk 25.0m; then turn 90 degrees again and walk 5.00 m. Give the distancefrom the palm tree, and the direction relative to north, for eachof the four possible locations of the treasure. Thank you! Explanation / Answer

We'll do this with vector notation where: North is +y,south -y, east +x, west is -x The palm tree (origin) will be Case 1: (right turn, right turn) + 12 North = +25 East = -5 South = Case 2: (right, left) You can repeat this method for the other two cases(Left, right) and (Left, Left) Once you have those end coordinates use pyth thrm to find thedistance. 25^2 + 7^2 That will give you the distance. You can use trig to find thedirection relative to north (I'm assuming you need an angle) It may help to plot these points out on paper then draw sometriangles
