Question
A LASIK vision correction system uses a laser that emits10 ns long pulses of light, each with 2.5 mJ of energy. Thelaser is focused to a 0.90 mm-diameter circle.
What is the electric field strength of the laser light at thefocus point?
This is what I did:
the average power of each laser pulse is P = 2.5 mJ/10 ns =2.5*105 W
The area of the circle is A = *(0.45 mm)2 =6.36*10-7 m2
So the magnitude of the Poynting vector S = P/A =3.93*1011 W/m2
Use S = 0cE2,
E = [S/(0c)] = 1.22*107V/m
Is there anything wrong?
