Question

The capacitor in an RC circuit(R = 110 , C = 50 F)is initially uncharged. a)Find the charge on the capacitor in the circuit one timeconstant (=RC) after the circuit is connected to a 9.0-Vbattery. b)Find the current in the circuit one timeconstant (=RC) after the circuit is connected to a 9.0-Vbattery.

Explanation / Answer

R = 110 ohm C = 50 * 10 ^ -6 F (a). In CR circuit   charge after time t is q = Q [1- e -t / RC ] time constant = RC time t = time constant = RC plug it we get   q = Q [ 1- e -1 ]                          = 0.632 Q                          = 0.632 CV                          = 0.632 * 50 * 10 ^ -6 * 9                          = 284.45 * 10 ^ -6 C (b). Current i = I e -t /RC                     = I e -1    Since t = RC                     = I / e                     = ( V / R ) / e                      =( 9 / 110 ) / 2.718                     = 0.0301 A
