Question

Can someone help me on how to obtain total initial momentum, total final momentum, kinetic energy (car 1) initial, kinetic energy (car 1) final, and kinetic energy (car 2) final, total initial & total final kinetic energy??

Just 1 trial with sample calculations so I can know how you did it so I can do it for the rest of my trials! Pleasee!

Explanation / Answer

Picking up Trial 1 for showing calculations:

since you haven't specifoed the initial velocity of mass ( m2) ,I am assuming that it's at rest.

total initial momentum= (258.5 x 10^-3 ) kg (374.1 m/s) + (257x 10^-3kg) (0) =(96.705 + 0 ) = 96.705 kg m/s

total final momentum= (258.5 x 10^-3 ) kg (0 m/s) + (257x 10^-3kg) (380.7 m/s) = ( 0 +97.84 ) = 97.84 kg m/s

Initial KE of mass m1 = 1/2 mv^2 = 0.5 (0.2585) (374.1^2) =18088.642 J

initial KE of mass m2 = 0 J

Total initial KE = 18088.642 J + 0 =  18088.642 J

Final KE of mass m1= = 0.5 ( 0.2585) (0^2) = 0 J

Final KE of mass m2= 0.5 ( 0.257) (380.7^2) = 18623.83 J

Final KE =  0 J + 18623.83 J = 18623.83 J
