a. Addition of Cl2 and CH2Cl2 to an aqeuous solution of an unknown halide ion led to a dark CH2Cl2 layer. Addition of 0.1 M AgNO3 to another sample of the same unknown halide ion solution generated a light yellow ppt; addition of concentrated NH3 to the same solution left a cloudy solution.

b. Addition of acidic 0.1NaNO3, 0.5M HNO3 and CH2Cl2 to an aqeuous solution of an unknown halide ion resulted in a colerless CH2Cl2 layer.
