Question
A. A concave mirror has a radius of curvature of 1.09 m. An object is placed 1.74 m in front of the mirror. What is the position of the image? Answer in units of m.
B. A concave mirror has a focal length of 26 cm. What is the magnification if the object’s distance is 181 cm?
C. An object 4 cm high is placed 21 cm in front of a convex mirror with a focal length of 15 cm. What is the image position? Answer in units of cm.
D. A convex mirror has a focal length of 24 cm. What is the object distance if the image distance is 17.3 cm? Answer in units of cm.
Explanation / Answer
You asked multiple question and i am bound to answer first one..
a) for concave mirror given
R = 1.09 m so f = R/2 = 0.545 m
u = 1.74 m ( +ve as object is in front of mirror)
we know that
1/u + 1/v = 1/f
1/1.74 + 1/v = 1/0.545
v = 0.79 m
v is +ve means image is real and in front of mirror
b) for concave mirror
u = 181 cm
f = 26 cm
we know that
1/u + 1/v = 1/f
1/181 + 1/v = 1/26
v= 30.4 cm
magnification m = - v/u = - (30.4)/(181) = - 0.167
