Question

Show work series RLC circuit has R = 50.00 12, C = 200 F, and L = 100 H The ac generator (a) Does the ac generator emf lag, or lead the current oscillation has emf mplitude 30.0 V and is driving the oscillation at a frequency o25 a i(t)? Is the circuit mainly inductive or capacitive? Support your answer with aca (b) Calculate the average power dissipated in the circuit. (c) By adjusting frequency o, we can make the amplitude l as large as possible. To do this, do we need to increase, or decrease (od? Support your answer with ashort calculation and/or explanation.

Explanation / Answer

a)

inductive reactance, XL = w*L = 275*1 = 275 rad/s

capacitive recatnce, XC = 1/(w*c) = 1/(275*20*10^-6) = 182 ohms

clearly, XL > Xc so, emf leads the current Oscillations.

b) impedance of the ckt, z = sqrt(R^2 + (XL - Xc)^2)

= sqrt(50^2 + (275 - 182)^2)

= 105.6 ohms

current through the ckt, Imax = Vmax/z

= 30/105.6

= 0.284 A

Average power dissipated in the ckt,

P_avg = I^2*R/2

= 0.284^2*50/2

= 2.02 Watts

c) we need to decrease wd. since already, XL > Xc

when wd is deacresed, when XL = Xc the magnitude of current becomes maximum.
