Show work to arrive to the answer. Question5 10 out of 10 points Calculate the volumetric size of a water molecule for water in the liquid form at normal conditions. Give answer in angstroms, two significant digits. Do not write down units in your answer Selected Answer:3.1 Correct Answer: 3.1 Answer range+- 0.05 (3.05-3.15) Question 6 10 out of 10 points Calculate the volumetric size of a water molecule for water in the form of ice just below the melting point. Give answer in angstroms, two significant digits. Do not write down units in your answer. Selected Answer:3.2 Correct Answer: 3.2 Answer range + 0.05 (3.15-3.25)Explanation / Answer
Generally the temperature we assume at normal condition is 25 Celcius
At 25 C ,the density of water is 0.997 g/mL
Molecular mass of water is 18.02
Therefore,18.02 gm of water has 18.02/0.997 mL of volume
18.02 gm of water has avogadro number(6.022*1023) of water molecules
so the volume of 6.022*1023 molecule=18.02/0.997 mL
volume of 1 Water molecule=18.02/(0.997*6.022*1023)=30.01 A
Below melting point ,the density of ice is 0.916 g/mL
Therefore,18.02 gm of water has 18.02/0.916 mL of volume
18.02 gm of water has avogadro number(6.022*1023) of water molecules
so the volume of 6.022*1023 molecule=18.02/0.916 mL
volume of 1 Water molecule=18.02/(0.916*6.022*1023)=32.63 A
