Question

Problem 9.21 Part A A traffic light hangs from a pole as shown in the figure(Figure 1). The uniform aluminum pole AB is 7.30 m long and has a mass of 13.0 kg. The mass of the traffic light is 28.5 kg Determine the tension in the horizontal massless cable CD FT Figure 1 of! Submit My Answers Give Up Incorrect; Try Again 37° Part B 3.80 m Determine the vertical and horizontal components of the force exerted by the pivot A on the aluminum pole Enter your answers numerically separated by a comma ert Fhorizontal -

Explanation / Answer

(A) sin37 = 3.80 / AD

AD = 6.31 m

balancing moment about torque A,

M = (7.30/2 x 13 x 9.81 x cos37) + (7.30 x 28.5 x 9.81 x cos37) - (6.31 x T sin37) = 0

T = 527 N .........Ans

(B) balancing force in horizontal, Fh = T = 527 N

in vertical, Fv = (13 + 28.5)(9.81) = 407 N

Ans: (407 N , 527 N )
