Answer these questions or do these excercises according to instruction and receive 5 exam points each (30 pts total). When deriving the equations place equations on the left half of the page and add verbal explanations on the right half for all non trivial steps. Derive Equation 2-16 (v2-vo2+2ax) from the very beginning ie first principles 1. 2. Derive Equation 3-23 3. Derive Equation 3-27 4. Derive Equation 4-25 2. (tan ) 5. Derive Equation 4-34 a: = v2/R Draw a vector diagram for the following case: A car is moving forward at 10 m/s and raining is falling downward vertically at 5 m/s. What angle does the rain make with the vertical as the driver looks out the window horizontally and perpendicularly from the path of the car. 6.

Explanation / Answer

let the initial velocity of the body is Vo

and after travelling a distance x,the body has final velocity V,with the accelaration a in time t seconds

then

average velocity = distance travelled / time taken

(V+Vo)/2 = x/t

but accelaration is a = rate of change of velocity = (V-Vo)/t

then t = (V-Vo)/a

(V+Vo)/2 = x*a /(V-Vo)

doing cross multimplication we get

(V+Vo)*(V-Vo) = 2*a*x

V^2- Vo^2 = 2*a*x

V^2 = Vo^2 + (2*a*x)
