Question
In a microscope of the type shown in the figure, the focal length of the objective is 4.24 cm, and that of the eyepiece is 9.26 cm. The distance between the lenses is 26.3 cm. (a) What is the tube length s? (b) If image I in the figure is to be just inside focal point F'i, how far from the objective should the object be? What then are (c) the lateral magnification m of the objective, (d) the angular magnification me of the eyepiece, and (e) the overall magnification M of the microscope? The overall angular magnification M of a microscope M is product of two factors
one is latral magnification m1, second one is angular magnification M2
first one from the problem is m1 = -3.01887
now the angular magnification M2 = (y/f2)/(y/25)
M2 = (25/f2)
where f2 is focal length of the eyepiece
M2 = (25/9.26) = 2.69978
now the overall angular magnification is M = m1*M2 = 3.01887*2.69978 = 8.1503
