Question
High quality protein contains all the essential amino acids in the proportions required by an animal; it may or may not contain all the non-essential amino acids. Proteins that are low in essential amino acids cannot support protein synthesis alone. Generally, foods derived from animals, (meat products, fish products, and dairy products) are all regarded as high quality proteins. However, there is one exception; Gelatine. Describe why a pet owner should not use Ox hide gelatin as the sole source of protein in their dog’s diet.
Explanation / Answer
Ox hide gelatin cannot be used as a sole source of protein because it donot contain all the necessary aminoacids needed for the dogs growth. The pets food can include it as a supplement but should not be entire diet.
