The beam has a weight of 342 N. Three additional forces keep the upward at the angle @ with respect to the horizontal. The hinge applies a force to the left end of beam in equilibrium. The brace applies a force to the right end of the beam that is directed -420 by a brace that is attached to V. Find the magnitudes of these three forces the beam that has a horizontal component H and a vertical component Beam (a) V- (c) H. 1 2000-2017 onnyile.as Inc. 4.24.2.4

Explanation / Answer

A freebody diagram will show that:

V + P*sin42° = 342..........................1)

342*(L/2) = L*P*sin42°
P = 342/(2*sin42°)

P = 255.6 N
From (1),

V = 342 - P*sin42° = 170.97 N

H = 255.6*cos42° = 189.95 N
