Reference Tables for Physical Setting/Physics 2008 Edition DET 6. A boy pushes horizontally on a 10 kg wagon and t accelerates at 2.5 mls?. if fitional forces total sa N, what force is he exerting on it? Ans: 75 N Ec-1014, 'F©:Ggu Fnn. Fb9.rt The mass of an elevator plus occupants is 752 kg. The tension in the cable supporting the elevator is 8950 N. What is the unbalanced force? What is the elevator's acceleration? Ans: 1580-4 N: 2 10 ms 7. 8. A pulley holds a 10 N weight. A man pulls on the rope with an upward force of 15 N. What acceleration does the weight experience? Ans: 490 m's 9. A 800 N force pushes a 50 kg block horizontally on a table. The coefficient of friction between the surfaces is 0.60. What force of friction opposes the motion? What is the unbalanced force? What is the block's acceleration? Ans: 294 N: 506 N: 10.12 ms 10. A sled with a mass of 8.0 kg supports a child with a mass of 20.0 kg. The sled is pushed along a horizontal surface by the child's grandfather with a force of 62 Newtons. The sled experiences a frictional force of 49 Newtons retarding its motion. What is the coefficient of friction between the sled and the surface? What acceleration does it experience? Ans 046mw

Explanation / Answer

Problem (7) -

Weight of the elevator plus occupants, W = mg = 752*9.8 = 7369.6 N

Tension in the cale, T = 8950 N

So the unbalanced force, F = T - W = 8950 - 7369.6 = 1580.4 N

And acceleration of the elevator, a = F/m = 1580.4 / 752 = 2.10 m/s^2
