Question

d) osed en the equo Along what kind of path will the charge move? Does the particle's speed change? If so, how? If not, why not? In either case, explain your answer in terms of forces acting on it. e) f) Does the particle's velocity change? Explain your answer in terms of the force acting on it. Explain what happens for any particle when i) g) a force is acting in the direction of a particle's motion. ii) a force is acting opposite a particle's motion. ii) a force is acting perpendicular to a particle's direction of motion.

Explanation / Answer

I will answer part (g) as it seems independent. The other parts are dependent which is not included in the image.

(g) (1) Force causes acceleration. If a force is acting in the direction of motion, The particle will start accelerating and will continue to do so unless other force is applied.

(2) If a force is applied in the opposite direction to the motion, the particle will experience friction or we can say it will decelerate.

(3) If force is applied perpendicular to direction of motion, then the speed remains constant, but direction will change. The particle will start moving in a uniform circular motion in which force is always perpendicular to velocity.
