Question
Calculate the mass of the planet. (10 points) (G = 6.67 × 10-nNm2/kg.) Problem 6-Collisions A bullet of mass m 4.549 is shot horizontally into a block of wood of mass M 2.41 kg. The block of wood is initially at rest ou a lat surface. The coefficient of kinetic frictiou betwcon the block and the surface is .= 0.210. The bullet enters into the block. The bullet remains in the block. This block moves a distance of d = 1.83 m before stopping. a) Calcuiate the velocity of the block immediately after it is hit by the bullet. (5 points) b) What was the inital velocity of the bullet? (10 points)Explanation / Answer
speed of block after bullet comes to rest ,
1/2 ( M + m )V^2= ( M + m ) g x
1/2 V^2= g x
0.5 * V^2 = 0.21 * 9.8 * 1.83
V = 2.74 m /s
From law of conservation of momeutm ;
4.54 x 10-3 * v = ( 4.54 x 10-3 + 2.41 ) * 2.74
v = 1457.23 m /s
