Acclimatization to altitude is very important to win the La Paz, Bolivia, marathon; as La Paz is located at an altitude of 3700-m which is very high, and our body at such a high altitude will face the problem of low levels of oxygen as the air is thin at the higher altitudes. Hence acclimatization training for at least three weeks prior to the marathon is a must. While Lima is; located at an altitude of; 1550 meter. Hence this easy/down time; at the low elevation of Lima at 1550 meter will jeopardize the chance of winning. So this appears to be an underhanded attempt to handicap.
